Domain Warmup

Domain warmup is the practice of starting with a small volume of email on a new sending domain and gradually increasing over days or weeks. This builds trust with mailbox providers, who are suspicious of new domains sending high volumes. Proper warmup establishes a positive reputation baseline before scaling to full volume.

Warmup Schedule

A typical warmup schedule over 30 days:

  • Days 1-3: 50-100 emails/day
  • Days 4-7: 200-500 emails/day
  • Days 8-14: 500-2,000 emails/day
  • Days 15-21: 2,000-5,000 emails/day
  • Days 22-30: 5,000-10,000 emails/day

During warmup, send to your most engaged subscribers first (recent openers/clickers). Monitor bounce and complaint rates daily. If rates spike, slow down the ramp. Automated warmup tools adjust the schedule based on real-time reputation signals.
